In 2015, some staff members had an idea !!
An idea to create a beautiful and peaceful garden in a small overgrown corner of our school. They wanted the garden to be a tranquil place for reflection and relaxation, and with the very generous help of Kenneally Steel Fabrication Ltd., the determination of staff and some serious art work from our children our amazing “Garden of Tranquility” was brought to life.
The main feature of the garden is a magnificent tree made of clay tiles, which were handmade by each and every one of the children. Each tile is different and unique just like the children themselves. Dotted throughout the tree if you look closely are words of reflection such as “peacefulness”, “Honesty”, “Hope”, “Happiness”….
We cannot thank Kenneally Steel Fabrication Ltd., enough for everything they did to help us put this garden together. They measured up the whole area and made everything to fit perfectly. At the entrance there is a stunning arch way, fence and gate. A beautiful wooden pathway leads up to the raised flower beds and a lovely bench to sit a relax.
The flower beds have been planted and are very well cared for by staff and children. Also around the garden you will find colourful windmills and musical chimes that make a very soft sensory experience for the children. There are fun little things also like, gnomes, fairy’s and fairy doors.
This garden has many different meanings to each person that goes there. For our children it is a beautiful sensory outdoor space. Where they can sit and relax and listen to the chimes or watch the colourful windmills or move around and explore the little features it has. They can feel the tiles along the walls or the grass under their feet and smell the blossoming flowers.
It also has a very special meaning for everyone, it is a place of remembrance, for the wonderful children that have come into our lives, touched our hearts, and left lasting memories in our minds. We can go there and sit quietly to think about our dear friends or we can spend time there talking about them and remembering fun times.
We would like to thank everyone involved including all the staff members involved in making this happen (too many to mention). All the children for the wonderful artwork, but we would like to sincerely thank Kenneally Steel Fabrication Ltd., Ballyduff in County Waterford who not only specially made everything to fit the garden they also did it completely free. We will be eternally grateful.
In loving memory of all our St. Paul’s Angels x
